Chosen in remembrance of the Stonewall riots in New York in 1969, June is recognised as Pride Month throughout much of the world. “Pride Month” is a bit of a misnomer, however, with Pride events being held throughout most of the summer in the UK, Europe and beyond, celebrating diversity and equality for the LGBTQ+ community.
In the 50 years since Stonewall, cities around the world have joined the celebration, hosting bigger and brighter Pride events each year.
Here are our top 5 Pride events in the UK and Europe:
Theming the event to focus on a pertinent political message each year, CSD Berlin brings together approximately half a million people for advocacy and celebration. This year’s event – “Stonewall 50 – Every Uprising starts with your voice” – culminates in world-class musical acts on the mainstage.
Known as the UK’s most popular pride festival, Brighton & Hove Pride combines live entertainment, fundraising and campaigning into a three-day event to remember. From concerts and a community parade to family entertainment and even a Pride dog show, there’s something for everyone at this weekend event by the sea.
Following Brighton on the list, Manchester Pride draws some heavy-hitters in music, including this year’s headliner Ariana Grande. Held over the August bank holiday, Manchester Pride is looking ahead to the future this year with a theme of “Deep Space Pride: A Future World of Equality”.
No standard Pride parade here – Pride Amsterdam hosts its parade on its infamous canals. If dry land is more your style, you’ll also find street parties, theatre performances and art exhibitions abound.
Focused on family-friendly fun, PRIDE Barcelona offers entertainment, activities and culture for attendees. The event boasts a parade along the Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina, delicious food and great music – all against the stunning backdrop of the sea.
No matter where and how you’re celebrating, we wish you a very happy Pride.
